Frequently Asked Questions about MAP
My Academic Path is Stanford's first comprehensive, central, real-time degree audit system, which tracks and monitors your progress toward degree completion. The degree audit report it provides outlines what you have completed and still need to complete to finish your program.
A degree audit report provides an analysis of program requirements for a particular degree, major, or minor. It matches your completed, in-progress, and transfer courses against the requirements of your program. It is a tool to help you and your advisors monitor your progress toward graduation and plan future coursework.
You can log into MAP via map-login.stanford.edu or from the map.stanford.edu homepage.
Access to MAP will be available to all Stanford students on July 30, 2024. Staff and faculty with advising responsibilities have used the system over the past year to prepare it for student use.
If you notice something in your degree audit report that appears to be incorrect, please submit a MAP help request describing the issue. Some degree audits may require manual updates from your advisor in order to apply courses to the correct requirements.
The information in MAP is updated on a nightly basis. You can also initiate an immediate update by using the Refresh Data button.
Only program and program components officially declared in Axess will appear in MAP. If the missing program component is officially declared in Axess, but does not appear in MAP, please submit a MAP help request.
If your department or program permits it, you can move eligible courses to meet particular requirements by using the move classes feature. For example, you might want to move a class currently counting as an elective to fulfill a specific eligible requirement (or vice versa). If you are an NCAA athlete, or trying to shift a class in your program that is not eligible to be moved, please contact your advisor or department to initiate a possible class move or petition for exception.
MAP uses your declare date (for undergraduates) and admit date (for graduate students) to determine what program requirements are applicable. These requirements may differ from the program requirements in the current Bulletin.
NCAA student-athletes have specific guidelines and restrictions when using MAP to ensure compliance with NCAA requirements. Please review the Student-Athlete FAQs linked at the bottom of the page to understand how MAP will support you in your academic journey at Stanford.
This feature, coming soon to students in a future update, allows you to explore different paths for your academic journey. Once released, you will be able to preview how your coursework would apply to a new academic goal, like a second major or new minor, or to a different goal altogether.
